How to Create a Wedding Timeline

As the “I do” season arrives, so does the “must-do” list. Here’s a quick breakdown of the essentials: Why; Who; and When.

  1. Why: Creating a timeline for your wedding day is essential to relieve stress, to inform vendors, and to make the most out of every moment.

  2. Who: We recommend starting with your venue. Talk to the venue owner to understand the rental agreement hours. A wedding timeline can start as early as the wedding rehearsal the day before. If the venue hours are from 10 am to 10 pm, this means the guests exit and clean up starts at 9:30 pm. Next, talk to your videographer/photographer. How much time do you have with them? Do you want first-look shots, golden hour, and exit shots? Then, talk to your professional caterer. What time will hot food be served? Will you offer a late night snack? If Bar Service is another vendor, find out when alcohol will be served and plan for the additional cost of security for each hour of service.

  3. When: Start planning early. As noted above, there are several important people to talk to. Finalize a month before the wedding and publish the timeline on your wedding website. Share with the venue, your vendors, your bridal party, and your guests. Remember to build in buffers between events for restroom breaks & time for you and your sweetheart to soak it all up! #thebarn1880 #barnvenue #wedding #timeline #ido #makeaplan
